Understanding Health Care Reform

As Congress debates the best way to fix our ailing health insurance system, the debate across America is heating up. Only a uniquely American solution will fix the weaknesses in the current system, and any solution must first start with an honest and open conversation. I've always said we will never achieve real health insurance reform without giving all of the stakeholders in this debate a seat at the table. That includes you.

This page is designed to provide you with the information you need to understand health insurance reform efforts in Washington. Here you can read the full text of the House's version of the health insurance reform bill, get the scoop about proposed changes to the legislation, learn the truth behind common myths, and make your voice heard by taking my online health care survey.

THE HOUSE BILL
On Thursday, October 29th, a new proposal to reform our nation's health care system was introduced. You can read the Affordable Health Care for America Act, HR 3962, and any subsequent Managers Amendment here. Both will be posted at least 72 hours prior to a vote to allow for public review and feedback.

THE SENATE BILL
On Wednesday, November 18th, the Senate version of health care reform legislation was unveiled.

WHAT'S NEXT? PROHIBITING TAXPAYER-FUNDED ABORTION
As I have said many times in this debate, I will not support a health care reform bill if I believe it would result in federal tax dollars being used to fund abortions. I am working with like-minded members to push for strong language to prevent federal tax dollars from being used to fund abortions and ensure Americans have access to pro-life insurance options on the proposed Health Insurance Exchange.
